Dave
Brook is the founder of Karate for Inner
City Kids - KICK - which delivers a
combined programme of karate,
citizenship and life skills. Dave
combines his 20 years experience as a
police officer and martial artist
diverting young people from crime
through his own karate academy,
Kushinkai Karate Academy.
KICK has been hailed as a GREAT
initiative - a Gang Resistance Education
And Training programme and is
currently being looked at by the Home
Office as a potential solution to gangs
and street crime.
Each
programme last 12 weeks and provides
FREE karate and Education as part of an
extended schools curriculum. At the end
of programme all students achieve a
number of diplomas some of which lead to
national qualifications. Schools are
also able to accredit the course work
towards GCSE' which leads to increased
educational attainment and increased
self esteem.
Dave
holds a 2nd Dan in shotokan/Freestyle
and 1st Dan in taiho jutsu. He is also a
qualified teacher and police control and
restraints instructor and previously
worked in the Caribbean as an armed
protection officer and self defence
instructor for the Crown Colonies
Governor of the Cayman Islands.
Dave
was recently awarded the title of Leeds
Children's Champion to recognise his
work with young people. He is also
completing his B.A (Hons) in Education
and will be looking towards a research
thesis 'Does Karate develop the mental,
physical, spiritual and social well
being of students?'
